Happy FriYay!!
The weekend is finally here and I hope you've all got a fab one planned. As you all know
I've decided to get back into setting some goals and trying my best to
achieve them. Also known as my Bucket List I did a post about it and you
can read it here.
Thinking
about my life before I had the little munchkin got me thinking about
the things I've already done and I'd like to take you on that little
journey and revisit something that was on my bucket list for years and I
never in a million years dreamed that I would do it.
Back
in 2008 I was fortunate enough to go on holiday to the beautiful island
of Cozumel in Mexico. I stayed in a gorgeous all inclusive hotel. Since
it was Mexico I wanted to experience and explore as much as possible
because lets face it these kinds of holiday's don't come about too
often. For me visiting such a country is a once in a lifetime chance.
Cozumel
is an island located in the Caribbean Sea. The island's economy is
based mainly on tourism. It's such a beautiful place and great for
learning about Mayan culture. Our hotel room was right on the beach so
we were lucky enough to go snorkeling a few times. It's the best place
to go if you want to go scuba diving or snorkeling.
First
on my list Swimming With Dolphins. I think this is on most people's
lists and such an amazing experience. I had the time of my life. I'm so
glad I could experience this and get it crossed off the list. Words
can't describe how it felt to be with such amazing mammals, up close and
personal.
Next
up on my list was of course visiting 1 of the 7 wonders of the world,
Chichen Itza. I'm such a sight seeing geek when it comes to my holidays.
I'm that person who researches places to go and visit months weeks
before the holiday. Mexico was no exception. The trip to Chichen Itza
was amazing! We spent the day walking around and learning all about the
Mayan culture.
Chichen
Itza was one of the largest Maya cities and it was likely to have been
one of the mythical great cities. It's just beautiful.
The
same day we travelled to Chichen Itza we stopped off at a beautiful
Mayan Cenote. Cenote means sacred well, and had great significance for
the Maya. First, they
represented the main water supply in a land that has no surface water
bodies and suffers long dry seasons. As a consequence, all Mayan
villages were built in the vicinity of a cenote, in order to secure a
permanent water supply. Second, cenotes were also important for
religious reasons. They believed cenotes to be portals to the underworld
and a way to
communicate with the gods. Archaeological research has found evidence of
religious ceremonies that took place in or around cenotes, including
human sacrifices.
Awwwww,
look how young I looked! Haha, this was such an amazing trip and I'm so
glad I've done it. If you get a chance to go to Mexico do it. It's such
a beautiful country and full of so much culture! I learnt a lot from
this trip!
I hope you've enjoyed revisiting this amazing trip with me. Have you ever been to Mexico?? What about swimming with dolphins??
Lots of Love
